Safe Injection and Harm Reduction Policy, passed by Saskatchewan NDP, 2007
WHEREAS the Vancouver Safe Injection Site, Insite, has been shown to save lives, reduce disease and increase public safety;
WHEREAS in 2007, both the BC NDP and the federal NDP have passed resolutions formally supporting the expansion of Vancouvers safe injection and opening similar health services where required;
WHEREAS the health risks and social harm related to the use of currently illegal substances can be best minimized with the use of non-punitive, harm reduction techniques;
BE IT RESOLVED that the NDP of Saskatchewan urge the government to support and facilitate the opening of similar safe injection site health services where required in any Saskatchewan communities that want and need one;
BE IT ALSO RESOLVED that the NDP of Saskatchewan urge the government to support research and implementation of other harm minimization approaches for illicit drugs, including medically supervised replacement and maintenance therapy.
