Medicinal Marijuana Policy passed by Ontario NDP, 1998

Whereas the New Democratic Party has traditionally advocated the provision and improvement of health care; and

Whereas cannabis is known to be useful in suppression of nausea, stimulation of appetite, and relief of pain, tension and depression, without serious negative effects, in treatment if manageable chronic illnesses and other serious conditions;

Whereas recent Canadian court decisions have found in favour of the therapeutic use of cannabis;

Be it resolved that the New Democratic Party of Ontario supports immediate action by both the federal and provincial governments to authorize the therapeutic use of cannabis; and

Be it further resolved that this policy be moved as Federal New Democratic Party policy at the next Federal Council Meeting by the Ontario Section's representatives.

Passed at the Ontario NDP Convention, 1998
