Emergency Resolution on Civil Forfeiture, Passed by Yukon NDP 2010

Whereas the Yukon Party government's Bill 82 Civil Forfeiture Act poses significant threats to civil liberties, unintended consequences to the innocent, and lacks the means of citizens to seek redress;

 

Therefore the Yukon New Democratic Party is fundamentally opposed to Bill 82 because:

 

(1) it does not protect civil liberties;

(2) citizens do not have a right to appeal decisions;

(3) the law is retroactive; and

(4) it was not based on full public consultation.
